Warm Water on the Bay Side

The line of trees marks the navigable channel out to the bay

Once the tide came in swimmers yielded to the boat traffic

Two days ago we visited Marconi Beach on the ocean side of the cape. Nice waves and views but a water temp. of 57 degrees as is usually the case. Yesterday we heard about this nice bay side beach in Orleans. When we first arrived the tide was out and we could have easily walked a half mile out before we reached the waters edge. The beach area had what appeared to be town dockage for a number of charter boats and a channel marked by scruffy dead pine trees leading out to navigable waters. When we arrived the channel was less than 2 feet deep so there were no boats coming or going. The water felt like it was about 80 degrees. I went swimming twice without hesitation. The water was absolutely perfect. Once the tide turned and started to come in everything changed fast. The current of the flood tide was so fast that people who had walked out on the sand minutes ago were floating back in on the tide current. Before long the channel reached a navigable depth and the fishing charters started to depart. We understand there is a 6 hour window for the boats to leave and return for each tide cycle.

You can't not go to P town

It was a one mile hike around this pond

Martha admiring the lily pads

Lots of funky trees!

This is at least a 40' boat

Lobster bisque with sherry

We started the day off with a hike around a lily pad covered pond north east of Province Town. The trail was sort of a shaded tunnel cut out of the jungle surrounding the pond. We were glad it was shady as it was 88 degrees with high humidity. Afterword we decided to go into P town for lunch and to see the sights. At the main pier we could see a large sail boat heeled over at a steep angle. Upon closer inspection we could see that some visitors from Connecticut had tied their boat off at high tide unaware it would be aground in a few hours when the tide ebbed. At the very least the cabin must have been a mess. Beginning to feel a bit peckish we decided to eat at a harbor view restaurant called PePe's. We enjoyed excellent lobster bisque and a prosciutto, apple and brie panini. mmm Good!

Back at the campground I am amazed how quiet it is. This place is booked solid (high season) yet is so peaceful. The majority of our neighbors are Canadian and very friendly though they speak little english.

Finally Got the Show on the Road!

It has been a long three months waiting to take Dessy for her maiden voyage but the time has finally come. Much of our recent efforts went into researching how to safely tow our VW behind the coach, but it has all finally come together in the 11th hour. As you can see in the top photo we are ready to roll as a single 60 foot long vehicle.

After about 7 hours driving time we arrived at Atlantic oaks Campground in Eastham, Mass on the Cape. It was my first time driving such a large vehicle but it turned out to be fun and exciting. Merging a 60 ft vehicle tested my nerves a bit but it was otherwise not so different from driving anything else. Actually, it reminded me of my first time on the race track when I attended SCCA racing school at Lime Rock Park. Once you get the first lap under your belt you are hooked. It is also nice to travel in a vehicle that has a clean restroom ready to go at all times!

Atlantic Oaks turned out out to be the perfect base camp for a week. Our wooded, shady campsite provides all needed utilities, wi-fi and an ideal mid-cape location.

My First Post

I have been anxious to post to this blog but have been waiting until I learn more about creating websites. However, if I wait until everything is just perfect then I will never get started. So, here we go! This template based web page doesn't look anything like the site I'd like to design but for now it will have to do. Currently I am taking a course titled "Creating Web Pages" through Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, CT. You can check it out here Link. I took a Quark Express course at this school about 10 years ago and liked it a great deal. This time I am taking the course online. This is terrific! It is a fraction of the cost and I don't have to drive a long way for a 3 hour class. The lessons are spaced out over 6 weeks with quizzes and a final exam at the end. There is a discussion area where you can get extra help or have your questions answered. I really look forward to each new lesson. I am surprised to say this, but I don't see any disadvantage compared to attending a stix and bricks school. Mmmmm, makes me wonder about the future of education.
